Music Vault FAQs
There are 3 models of the Music Vault and they are intended for 3 different applications.
1. The Music Vault II is designed to work as a networked music server. It is the best way to complete the Logitech
family of players. The Music Vault II will also work with any networked radio or receiver. One of the biggest differences
between the Music Vault II and the other Music Vaults is that the Music Vault II can support up to 8 wireless players
from Logitech or a combination of players from different manufacturers on its own wireless network.
There is no practical limit to the number of wired networked players it can serve. If you will have more than 8 players
contact us so we can increase the amount of RAM included.
The other Music Vaults are designed to work on one system only and to attach to an outboard DAC.
2. The Music Vault USB has been optimized to work with a USB DAC.
It comes with iTunes installed as the user interface and an iPod Touch as its wireless remote. The Music Vault USB can
be connected to your network either wireless or wired.
3. The Music Vault 24-192 has been optimized to work with your External DAC. The Music Vault 24-192 has a
SPDIF coax Digital Output and Input. If your DAC has a clock output it can be connected to the Coax Digital input on
the Music Vault 24-192 to help reduce jitter. When you order your Music Vault 24-192 you should let us know which
DAC you have so that we can optimize its performance for your DAC. It is possible to use the analog output of the Music
Vault 24-192. Let us know if you intend to use the Analog outputs and we will optimize the Music Vault for your
application.
PC versus Macintosh issues.
The Music Vault II can be configured to use iTunes or Windows Media Player as the auto ripper. Let us know which
you would prefer.
If you already have saved music to a USB Hard Drive that was formated in the Apple file format you can go to this
website and down load a program onto the Music Vault that will allow it to read your hard drive and copy the music over
to the Music Vault. http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/
The program has a 5 day trial period and after that you must purchase it to keep using it.
If you are using an Apple Extreme it will have difficulty with the Music Vault.
These are instructions for configuring the Extreme to work with the Music Vault.
Remember that the name of the Home Server for you will be "musicvault" and that the password will be "Music1234".

I'm about to install a Sonos system. Here's my questions. Can I use the Music vault II with them?
Yes, any of the Music Vaults will look like network storage to the Sonos.
If you want to be able to play hi res files, such as the HRX from Reference Recordings then you should get the Music
Vault 24-192, as it is the only Music Vault that has a SPDIF coax digital output. Use it with your primary system and use
the Sonos players in your secondary systems.
Can't I just use my computer to Playback hi-res music files?
Yes you can but it will most likely be limited to a 16 bit 44.1 KSPS output so you won't hear the better sound quality.
Other older music server designs may down sample the hi res files to 24 bit 92 KSPS files and again you won't hear the
magic these files are capable of.
The Latest High Resolution Audiophile Downloads from David Chesky will only playback at the 24 bit 192 KSPS digital
output on a tiny number of Music Servers, the Music Vault was designed to play this Music Back Flawlessly either
providing the 24 Bit 192 KSPS digital out to your Dac or though its Analog Out into your front end.

Chesky Records 192 kHz/24-bit WAV 1-to-1 Masters
Chesky Records introduces the 192 kHz/24-bit series. These are not limited editions but one-to-one copies of our
master 192 kHz/24-bit tapes. These are standard 192 kHz/24-bit WAV files that you can burn onto your computer's hard
drive and then play back on any device that will support 192 kHz/24-bit. These discs will NOT play on DVD-audio
players, CD players, and SACD players. These discs contain up to 4.7 GB of music each on a Gold DVD-R.
This is a major breakthrough for us in sound quality. The one-to-one masters off a good computer system sound more
like analog than any other digital source we have used. You will hear more air, tonal purity, resolution, and a much
richer, deeper, and wider soundstage.
